The network brings together companies, research organisations and other energy and environmental sector stakeholders. Ovako Imatra contributes industrial-scale expertise to the network, particularly in the areas of the circular economy and material efficiency.

All of Ovako’s steel production is based on recycled raw materials and fossil-free electricity, resulting in one of the lowest carbon footprints for steel products globally. The environmental performance of the Imatra mill is also exemplary: only around five kilograms of non-recoverable waste are generated per one tonne of steel produced.

“Greenreality Network provides a natural platform for exchanging expertise and showcasing concrete examples of how circular economy principles and low-emission production are implemented in practice,” says Helena Kumpulainen, Environmental Director at Ovako Imatra.

“Through cooperation, it is possible to identify new opportunities and develop solutions that have a broader impact beyond our own industry.”

The Ovako Imatra mill produces technically demanding engineering steels for applications in, among others, the automotive and engineering industries. The mill employs approximately 500 people and is the largest employer in the metal industry in South Karelia.
