Ovako has a history of pioneering the use of boron steel and over time has innovated its use and the wide range of variants we can provide today. Boron is a small interstitial element which is added to improve hardenability. It most effective in lower and medium carbon steels with < 0.40% C. Boron increases the strength of heat-treated steels in the quenched and tempered condition. Boron steel grades can be hot worked and direct quenched to achieve a high strength component. It is often a very cost-effective solution. Boron steels are often used in applications subjected to wear.

We made it! But we are still not satisfied
What a journey! It took years of hard work to make our steelmaking operations more sustainable. In 2022, we went carbon neutral in all operations. But we´re still not satisfied - our journey continue for products with no CO2 emissions.
